Luxury Skiing Holidays in New Zealand

A New Zealand skiing holiday gives you more magic in every day! New Zealand has developed a deserved reputation as an international skiing destination. The season runs from June to October, the landscapes and scenery are out of this world and gear is easy to hire. New Zealand ski fields are uncrowded with plenty of wide-open bowls and gentle slopes for first-time skiers and off-piste skiing and heli-skiing for the more adventurous.

Real mountains, incredible scenery, lively ski towns, friendly locals! You will be surprised at the recent changes to the NZ resorts – new express lifts, expanded snowmaking facilities, improved base facilities, accredited childcare centres and specialised kids lessons which make skiing in New Zealand an experience not to be missed.

South Island in New Zealand
If you have never been, you will be excited from the moment you glimpse the Southern Alps from the plane. A right hand window seat is what you need flying into Christchurch to spot Mt Hutt, while either side works on the spectacular direct flights into Queenstown as the approach brings you in between the ranges with views of Cardrona, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak on a clear day. Off mountain the ski towns are continually expanding with a huge range of accommodation on offer from funky backpacker lodges to 5 Star plus Llxury apartments and hotels. As for Apres Ski you will be spoilt for choice with the numerous restaurants, cafes and bars on hand. If you can handle a big one on a Monday night then Queenstown is the place to head. Don’t be fooled by Wanaka or Methven’s small town charm and serenity, they both have their share of the hot spots and adrenalin pumping activities. Snow does fall in the resort towns on occasion however New Zealand is not known for its on snow accommodation.

Queenstown

New Zealand's adventure capital and #1 year round holiday resort destination needs little introduction to most people. No other ski town in Australasia comes close to offering the range of activities, night-life, restaurants and shopping you can enjoy here. Best of all, it’s only just over three hours direct flight from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne (but be quick for these flights sell out fast). A lot of the accommodation in Queenstown is close to the centre, so you can stroll to the action, while shuttle bus services (some free supplied by hotels, or the cheap Shopper Shuttle) connect most of the rest. Many leading activities include transport. Self drive or use mountain shuttle services to ski at your choice of the nearby mountains: Coronet Peak under 30 minutes away, The Remarkables 45 minutes away and Treble Cone or Cardrona around 90 minutes away (subject to road, weather and traffic conditions). When you don’t feel like skiing your other activity opportunities are virtually unlimited and our flexible pass options let you opt for an activity instead of skiing whenever you feel like it.

Wanaka
In many ways Wanaka is like a boutique version of the better known Queenstown, 50 minutes drive to the south - you get a similar (locals reckon better) lake front position and glorious views, and a good, though much smaller, selection of restaurants and cafes, shops and nightspots. It attracts a mix of upmarket skiers looking for a quieter getaway, family skiers who appreciate the first rate kids facilities at the neighbouring resorts, and hardcore freestyle skiers and boarders looking for action who appreciate the extensive off piste and steeps. You can ski or board either at Treble Cone or Cardrona from Wanaka, both around 40 minutes drive from the town, or the Queenstown areas 70 – 90 minutes away. Or for the ultimate, this is the birthplace of heliskiing in New Zealand. The region is also home to the largest heli-skiing area outside North America, making it the ultimate location to experience New Zealand’s best skiing and snowboarding. Whether you are into fun family skiing, peaceful cross-country touring, park jibbing or heli-skiing, you’ll find it in Wanaka

Heli Skiing and Heli Boarding
Wanaka and Queenstown enjoys a limitless variety of exclusive backcountry terrain making it easy to escape from the crowds. World-class guides, mountain top landings, views, hundreds of square kilometres of untamed remote wilderness and powder snow – have we convinced you yet? Private heli-ski charters are the ultimate experience, providing a helicopter and guide exclusively for your use. Ride thousands of vertical feet of untracked snow in the Southern Alps. Costs are based on group numbers and the helicopter hours flown. Charter groups often ski 10 – 15 runs a day.

Family Ski Holiday
Hit the slopes and enjoy an exclusive Wanaka family ski holiday! Take your families skiing to the next level with guidance and tips from Greg Harrington (Ex-US Olympic ski coach). With OnePass, you’ll have the flexibility to explore all of Wanaka’s 4 world-class ski fields – Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park or Snow Farm. At the end of the day, relax with a glass of pinot noir while your in-house private chef prepares the family meal. Take in your spectacular surroundings and enjoy the majestic views as the sunsets over the Southern Alps.
